The Rhode Island Cloth-Hall Company was incorporated in 1836 in an effort to sell Rhode Island produced goods in Providence at an exhibition “Cloth Hall” rather than having them shipped to New York, Baltimore, and Philadelphia to be sold on commission by other merchants.
