Lot includes 5 pieces of white Intaglio printed cards, all held within a commemorative booklet (8.75 x 11 inches) featuring an intaglio vignette of Independence Hall in red ink on front. Left side of folder holds a green intaglio printed welcome sheet, featuring a vignette of Benjamin Franklin at center, with union members and officers listed underneath; Second paper is a blue intaglio printed piece featuring several vignettes, all related to Philadelphia’s history, such as the Liberty Bell and Philadelphia City Hall. Right side of folder holds an orange intaglio printed sheet, featuring more vignettes related to Philadelphia; Second sheet is a purple intaglio printed piece with more vignettes, all related to the origins of the United States, such as a vignette of the Declaration of Independence; Final page is an olive intaglio printed Thank You sheet, listing members of the Convention Committee, as well as notable people who were involved the development of this convention booklet. ������������������������������������������ Est. $180-280 436 436 Security Bank Note Co. - Security Columbian Bank Note Co. - USBNC. 1965 Specimen Merger Bond. Philadelphia, PA. “Specimen of an Improved Method of Engraving Bank Notes”, by Tanner, Kearny & Tiebout, Seated allegorical woman by shoreline with ship in the background, “Patent” in left counterfoil, Printed thin india type of paper mounted on thin manila card. Uncirculated with extremely light foxing. This three- partner imprint was very short-lived, but in that period the firm engraved and printed some beautiful banknotes. Benjamin Tanner may have studied with Peter Maverick and created some large plate engravings of War of 1812 scenes. Francis Kearny, supposedly the nephew of hero Commodore Lawrence, went back into private engraving in 1820. Cornelius Tiebout studied in London with James Heath. An India paper proof, printed to thin, wide margined card stock by Rogers & Estler (their imprint under the frame line). Flanking are oval dies with “T.K.& T.” left and “B.N.E.” at right. One of the earliest engraving company sample notes known. Lot of 4 different polymer sample notes with different security elements added. All are 100 Denomination notes with oil platform on front and back with oil wagon being pulled by horses, Includes security elements with colorful and ornate designs, all with variations of clear windows or designs of security features on the counterfoil margins on the right side of the note. The notes were part of a project from Mobil Oil for testing petroleum based hydrocarbon polymer paper for printing banknotes. All are in Choice to Gem Uncirculated condition.
