Handwritten stock certificate from the Office of the Allegheny Valley Railroad Company issuing 5 shares of Capital Stock, Serial Number 3. The original Allegheny Valley Railroad Company was established in the 1850s, most likely just prior to the issuing of this stock, and transported oil from the vicinity of Oil Creek and Titusville. The Allegheny Valley Railroad Company was affiliated with the prolific Pennsylvania Railroad system. This document is one of the first issued by the company, and is unique as a handwritten piece of stock ownership. Embossed company seal at left with old locomotive with caption “Safety & Speed”. Very Rare. This is the pictured example used in Cox.
