John Suffern, first Rockland County judge, 1798–1806, settled near the base of the Ramapo Mountains in 1773, and called the place New Antrim, after his home in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. New Antrim’s location was considered strategically important in the Revolutionary War because it was at an important crossroads near Ramapo Pass. General George Washington and other important military leaders used John Suffern’s home as headquarters when they were in the area. The town of Suffern, New York, is named after John Suffern. Back has outline of the LA Coliseum and where the different rows are located. Intaglio printed, 1/2 inch stain bottom left margin. The Games were held during the worldwide Great Depression, with some nations not traveling to Los Angeles; 37 nations competed, compared to the 46 in the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, and then-U.S. President Herbert Hoover did not attend the Games. The organizing committee did not report the financial details of the Games, although contemporary newspapers claimed that the Games had made a profit of US$1,000,000. Remarkably, the selection process consisted of a single bid, from Los Angeles, and as there were no bids from any other city, Los Angeles was selected by default to host the 1932 Games. It was at this Olympics that an Olympic Village was first built, and that a podium for the winners was also first used. Printed by Jeffries Bank Note Company which was eventually acquired by ABNC. Est. $55-110
