Pennsylvania, 1815, I/U stock certificate, Serial #65, 8 Shares, Black print with ornate border, Signed by Samuel Harvey as President; John Watson as Cashier and issued to Charles Nice, VF condition with some toning, Joseph Rakestraw, printer, Philadelphia. Samuel Harvey was a Philadelphia merchant and banker who owned a firm with James Worth in the early 1800s. Harvey received a local preaching license from the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1805. VF condition with light glue staining, Printed by Underwood, Bald & Spencer. Wheeling was established as a town in 1795 and incorporated in 1836 through a Charter granted by the Virginia Assembly. Wheeling was loyal to the Federal Government during the Civil War and the State of West Virginia was born here. The first convention of the delegates from the loyal counties of northwestern Virginia met in Wheeling on May 13, 1861, and inaugurated the movement which finally resulted in the admission of West Virginia into the Union as a state on June 20, 1863.
