Lot 3 Issued Documents Issued by the Wisconsin Secretary of State’s office, all confirming the issuance of aid to a dependent of a Wisconsin Volunteer for the Civil War. The documents certify what family members are dependent upon the soldiers, and what family member has charge of the family. One document has additional Affidavit for Wife attached, asserting the she has not “drawn any money from the Volunteer Aid Fund of the State, on behalf of any other Volunteer.” All are in Fine to VF condition with creases and some signs of age. Interesting trio of Civil War history. (3) ���������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $230-375 EPHEMERA - COLONIAL NAVIGATION RELATED DOCUMENTS Massachusetts 543 543 Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 1786SeamenWageDocument Salem, Massachusetts, 1786. Fascinating piece of history, a partially printed, partially handwritten Wage Document for a voyage bound from the Port of Salem to the West Indies and back. The Master of the ship was Joseph Strout, and includes his wages, as well as his time of entry, being May the 27th, 1786. Also included are two other seamen with their corresponding wages. Additional men were likely listed, however it has been cut off at the bottom. The document asserts that the “said Seamen and Mariners, do hereby promise and oblige themselves to do their Duty” while on the journey. The back of the piece includes interesting handwriting from the time period, such as the practicing of the letter “G” in script, and the phrase “Give to the poor.” Fine condition for its age with toning, staining, and signs of aging, but in remarkable condition for the time period. ������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������ Est. $160-280 EPHEMERA - EARLY SAG HARBOR, LONG ISLAND STAMPLESS LETTER New York 544 544 Handwritten Letter from Sag Harbor, Long Island, 1811 Sag Harbor, New York, 1811. Early Handwritten Letter with remarkable penmanship, Dark brown print on off-white paper. The author writes to his brother, relaying family news, such as the passing of Aunt Polly’s baby, and other details of his life. He writes, “We have had but two snows that [were] deep enough or fit for sleighing.” There is a also a letter on the back, writing to his “Dear Nephew.” Fine condition with signs of wear, piece missing from bottom margin, and toning.
