Buzzell, certifying his role as Volunteer from the State of Maine “in the service of the United States in suppressing the Rebellion and thereby maintaining the integrity of the Union,” Black text with gray border and of-red undertint, Trio of military portraits at center left, top center ( Joshua Chamberlain), and center right, a Quartet of Civil War-related vignettes at corners, and the Maine seal at center bottom. Facsimile signatures of Governor of Maine Joshua Chamberlain at bottom right and Adj. General John C. Caldwell at bottom left. Fine condition with toning and tears along margins which have been archivally repaired. Very scarce piece of Civil War history. Columbus, Mississippi, $1000 Specimen 6% 20 Year bond, black printing with blue “1000” underprint, Specimen overprints, POC’s, “0000” serial numbers, Slave holding cotton basket middle left, woman with cotton on spindle on middle right, VF condition with archivally reinforced splits on top horizontal fold. Fine condition with some toning, splitting, several small holes, and damage to right margin. Signed by Miles C. Folkes as Mayor of Vicksburg. Folkes served as mayor from 1840 to 1847, and again from 1858 to 1860.
