Chase Proof Vignette Group & Issued Justice of the Peace Appointment Certificate with his Autograph Signature, ca.1850-70s Ohio, ca. 1850-70s. Large group of items all related to Salmon P. Chase: Highlights include 6 Proof Vignettes by ABNC printed on india paper, each with various portraits and poses of Chase, all are intaglio printed in black, except 1 which is printed in green. One vignette in black is mounted on thick cardstock with V-72231 imprint at top center. All vignettes are in AU to CU condition; Also included is a document from Chase’s time as Governor of Ohio, which appointed Samuel W. Reed as the Justice of the Peace for the Township of Sandusky, in the County of Sandusky, signed by Chase at bottom, Black text with Ohio state seal at top left corner, Fine but fragile condition with thin paper with tears and splitting along margins and at top center. 7 pieces total. Salmon Portland Chase ( January 13, 1808 - May 7, 1873) was a U.S. politician and jurist who served as the sixth chief justice of the United States. He also served as the 23rd governor of Ohio, represented Ohio in the United States Senate, and served as the 25th United States Secretary of the Treasury. Chase was therefore one of a few U.S. politicians who served in all three branches of the federal government. ������������������������������� Est. $450-750 Pennsylvania 503 503 American Bank Note Company 1863 Issued Warrant by the Pennsylvania State Treasurer for Banknote Printing & Endorsed by Robert Draper. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 1863. I/C, Check #46, from the State Treasurer of Pennsylvania, made out to the American Bank Note Company for $470.87 for printing banknotes and for paper for Clearfield County Bank. Black text with red underprint, POC. VF condition. John Draper with James B. Longacre joined the competitive firm of Charles Toppan & Co., resulting in the new firm of Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. In 1839 Longacre withdrew and the firm’s name became Draper, Toppan & Co. After five years of this partnership Draper resigned and with his two sons Robert and William formed the firm of Draper & Co., at 60 Walnut St., Philadelphia (1845-1850). Distinguished gentleman at right, Mobil Oil Pegasus in middle, back with undertint, no main printing, Choice Unc condition. DuraNote polymer paper was a project started by Mobil Oil to find a replacement for banknote paper. The project ended when they merged with Exxon in the late 1990’s.
