(London, 1901). Well written 3-page letter from C. H. Sanford to Theodore H. Freeland, Esq. discussing his escapades as the business representative of ABNC in Argentina, and how it was not always “plain sailing,” and nearly cost him his life. The letter starts out with his concern for the President of ABNC, Mr. Macdonough, who was ill and unable “to attend much to business matters.” He goes on to write that he is very gratified with the success of the accounts as rendered by S. B. Hale & Co. The highlight of his letter follows, as he recounts how a discussion regarding the Cordova account “became so heated that it resulted in, not a French, but an Argentine duel.” Sanford writes that he carried his pistol some days, “expecting to be shot at every corner I turned.” Luckily, the man with whom he was feuding arrived at office, ready to be friendly and make up their differences. As Sanford puts it, “All’s well that ends well.” He then ends the letter with discussing the “New Emission” from Argentina, and issues the business had with the paper it was printed on. Unique and wholly original letter with an interesting story. Est. $450-750
