Lot of 2 Issued banknotes, both are 15 Shillings, P-S2478, with Black text and Arms of the Penn family at center right. One note is split in half and attached by an old pin and is in Good condition, other note is in Fine condition. Printed by Benjamin Franklin and D. Hall. Lot of 2 Issued banknotes: 10 Shillings, P-S2481, Black text and border, In two pieces and attached by an old pin, in Good to Good+ condition; and 50 Shillings, P-S2486, Black and red text, VG condition with bottom right corner missing and rough top margin. Lot of 2 Issued banknotes: 9 Pence, P-S2519, with a piece of text attached to back, possibly for reinforcement; and 2 Shillings, P-S2522, S/N 7903, repaired. Both are in Almost good to Good condition and have faded black text and signs of wear, especially the 2 Shillings note, which has a hole at center and significant splitting. Both are printed by Hall and Sellers, a Philadelphia printing company originally established by Benjamin Franklin. In 1743 Franklin hired David Hall (1714-77), a Scottish journeyman printer, and in 1748 made the latter a partner. The firm printed the Pennsylvania Gazette, Franklin’s newspaper. In 1766 Franklin sold his share in the business to Hall, and later that same year Hall brought in the journeyman printer William Sellers as his new partner, establishing Hall & Sellers. The firm carried government contracts, including printing paper money. March 10th, 1769. 10 Shillings, Issued banknote from Colonial Pennsylvania, S/N 1787, printed by D. Hall and Sellers. Black text with black borders, with black coat of arms depicted at right. VG condition with small faults, toning and splitting along center fold line. Signed by Stephen Collins, James Penrose, and Luke Morris.
