Fine condition. Printed by Press of Case, Tiffany and Co., Hartford. Joseph Trumbull (December 7, 1782 - August 4, 1861) was a U.S. lawyer, banker, and politician from Connecticut. He represented Connecticut in the U.S. Congress and served as the 35th Governor of Connecticut from 1849 to 1850. In addition to a successful law practice, Trumbull was active in several businesses. From 1828 to 1839 he was president of the Hartford Bank, and he served as president of the Providence, Hartford & Fishkill Railroad. Originally a national Republican, and later a Whig, Trumbull began his political career with election to the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1832. He was sent to the U.S. Congress in December 1834 to complete the term of WilliamW. Ellsworth who had resigned, and was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses (March 4, 1839 – March 3, 1843). Listed in Cox as a Specimen with no examples pictured. Only 2 examples found in the ABN Archives in 2002 and this is the only one available. Lot of 2 specimen bonds, Includes: 1903, $1000 Specimen 4% First Mortgage Gold Coupon Bond in brown; and 1919, $1000 Specimen 5% First Mortgage Gold Coupon Bond in orange. Both have red specimen overprints, 00000 serial numbers, and POCs. VF condition. The 1919, $1000, Orange bond is unlisted in vertical format, Only 2 examples of the 1903 bond were found in the ABN Archives in 2002 and this is the only example available. Georgia, 1893. $1000 Specimen 4% First Mortgage Gold Bond, Black text with brown border and undertint, Train in oval frame flanked by allegorical figures at top center. Red specimen overprints, 00000 serial number, and POCs. Fine-VF condition, ABNC. Known railroad, but no pictured examples in are in Cox.
