Franklin Fisher as company president. Mining scene depicted at top center, Eagle with American shield at top left, Man with anvil at bottom left, Seal of Colorado at top right, Allegorical Justice at bottom right, Ben Franklin at center bottom, and embossed company seal at bottom left. VF condition with pronounced fold lines, but in great condition for its age. Benjamin Franklin Fisher (1834-1915) enlisted in the Civil War in 1861, serving in the 32nd Pennsylvania Volunteers. In August, 1861, Fisher’s regiment arrived in Washington by train, and soon after he was detailed to the Signal Camp of Instruction, to assist Major Albert Myer in creating the Signal Corps. Generally, a signal officer’s mission was to produce intelligence reports. While shadowing Confederate columns near Aldie, Virginia, Fisher was captured and sent to Libby Prison. On February 9th, 1864, 109 prisoners tunneled out of Libby Prison, with Fisher leading the second party of ten. He eventually found his way back to Union Lines at Williamsburg, and eventually earned the rank of Brigadier General, resigning in 1866. After the war Fisher practiced law in Philadelphia and was active in many financial ventures, including mining.
