Archives International Auctions - Sale 71 79 November 23, 2021 Archives International Auctions www.archivesinternational.com EPHEMERA - HISTORIC DOCUMENTS France 409 409 French Ministry of War 1791 Discharge Certificate France..... 1791. Discharge Certificate issued to Antoine Lafond (31 years of age) by the French War Commissioner, allowing him to leave his calvary regiment, the Royal Dragons (Dragoons). At top center is illustrated the French royal crest, and to the left is a red wax seal that is difficult to read and has some damage. The permanent discharge was approved by the commander of the Royal Dragoons regiment, David Maurice Champouliès de Barrau de Muratel (1742-1827), who later went on to become a general in the French Royal Army during the Revolution. This document is fascinating because it was issued in February of 1791, when the turmoil of the French Revolution was well underway. As Lafond was a member of the Royal Dragoons, and this document was approved by the Lieutenant General of the King’s armies, it is possible that this regiment saw, or went on to see, some action against revolutionary forces in this period. Very Rare and unique piece from Revolutionary-era France, enriched with military history. .......... Est. $180-280 EPHEMERA - HISTORIC FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS 410 410 Reconstitution of Annuities, 1763 French Legal Document - Bond France, 1763. Hereditary payments are also discussed at length. Black text with dark brown writing, black seal at top center. Fine condition with damage to margins, but in incredible condition for its age. Rare and possibly unique piece of French financial history that pre-dates the French Revolution by over 20 years. The King of France at the time was Louis XV (15 February 1710 – 10 May 1774), known as Louis the Beloved, who was King of France from 1 September 1715 until his death in 1774. He succeeded his great-grandfather Louis XIV at the age of five. His reign of almost 59 years (from 1715 to 1774) was the second longest in the history of France, exceeded only by his predecessor, Louis XIV, who had ruled for 72 years (from 1643 to 1715). In 1748, Louis returned the Austrian Netherlands, won at the Battle of Fontenoy of 1745. He ceded New France in North America to Great Britain and Spain at the conclusion of the disastrous Seven Years’ War in 1763. He incorporated the territories of the Duchy of Lorraine and the Corsican Republic into the Kingdom of France. Historians generally criticize his reign, citing how reports of his corruption embarrassed the monarchy, while his wars drained the treasury while producing little gain. His grandson and successor Louis XVI would inherit a kingdom in need of financial and political reform, which ultimately would lead to the French Revolution of 1789. Est. $325-450 EPHEMERA - JUDAICA New York 411 411 Judea Industrial Corp. 1926 Stock Certificate & Liquidation Documents NewYork, Lot of 4 pieces: Includes 2 Shares I/CCapital Stock Certificate from 1926, issued to George Miller; March 29th, 1957 correspondence from Harry Yarin to Miller, regarding the liquidation of the Judea Industrial Corp. and the offer of fractional stock exchange to the Eastern Life Insurance Co. of New York; Letter from George Miller to Yarin which discusses the sale of the exchanged insurance company stocks; Letter from Miller to the Judea Industrial Corporation, acquiring additional shares.
