H. & J. M. Allen Co. in 8 months time, black text and handwriting, Fine condition with a center tear at bottom; Lot also includes an 1862 document from Walter H. Peters, Commercial and Marine Notary and Commissioner of Deeds, on State of Louisiana, Parish of Orleans - City of New Orleans letterhead, Black text and handwriting, certifying that the money owed was never received by the firm, also in Fine condition with some toning. (2) ������� Est. $180-280 486 486 New Orleans Canal and Banking Co., 1851 Notary Public Protest Document New Orleans, Louisiana, 1851. Public Instrument of Protest signed and notarized by Notary Public, Theodore Guyol, with red handstamp at bottom left. Also includes a related handwritten First Exchange bill, attached to the interior of the document. The New Orleans Canal and Banking Company issued a draft to Jacob Wood and John L. Benner for the sum of $200, and upon requesting the owed payment “was answered that no funds had been deposited there to pay the same.” The document goes on to say that the drawers, Wood and Benner, “deposited in the Post Office in this City on the same day of the said Protest.” Fine condition with toning and holes at center fold lines. Interesting financial document which pre-dates the Civil War. ������������������� Est. $240-375 Maryland 487 487 Bank of Baltimore, State of Maryland, 1802 Notary Public Promissory Note Document Assortment Maryland, 1802. Lot of 3 pieces, all double-sided: All are Promissory Notes (6 total on 3 double sided pages) from Samuel Sterett, Notary Public, each for $2000; $2000; $255.59; $141.67; $220; and $197.34, respectively. Black text with dark brown handwriting. Each promissory note outlines the terms and conditions of the promised payment. VF condition for its age, with slight toning around edges, and rough edges where the pages were torn from a book. Samuel Sterett (1758 - July 12, 1833) was a Representative from the fourth congressional district of Maryland. Sterett was elected to the Maryland State Senate in 1789. Following his service in the State Senate he was elected to the Second Congress (March 4, 1791 - March 3, 1793), during which he also served as secretary of the Maryland Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery in 1791. In 1812 Sterett became a member of the Baltimore committee of safety. He also served as captain of an independent company at the Battle of North Point September 12, 1814. Sterett was grand marshal in Baltimore at the laying of the foundation stone of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad on July 4, 1828. Massachusetts, 1926. $200 Special Tax Stamp by the Internal Revenue Service issued to Hornblower &Weeks. Hornblower &Weeks was an investment banking and brokerage firm founded by Henry Hornblower and John W. Weeks in 1888. At its peak in the late 1970s, Hornblower ranked eighth among member firms of the New York Stock Exchange in number of retail offices, with 93 retail sales offices located in the United States and Europe. Hornblower was active in financing automobile companies in the first half of the 20th century, including Dodge Motors, General Motors, and Hudson Motor Car Company. �������������������������������� Est. $130-260
