Issued payment owed to Thomas Tudor Tucker, Esquire and Treasurer of the United States, for the sum of $3,000 on account of pay “of the Army of the United States, for the year 1821” outlined in text and handwriting below. Tucker was owed $2,000 and an additional $1,000 as compensation for subsistence. VF condition, especially for its age. Thomas Tudor Tucker ( June 25, 1745 - May 2, 1828) was a Bermuda-born American physician and politician representing Charleston, South Carolina. He was elected from South Carolina in both the Continental Congress and the U.S. House. He later was appointed as Treasurer of the United States and served from 1801 to his death in 1828, establishing a record as the longest-serving Treasurer. Tucker held that post through the Jefferson, Madison, Monroe and J.Q. Adams administrations.
