Lot includes several pieces: 13th Biennial International Convention, 1987 commemorative folder with two sleeves, which hold several proof vignettes: United States Banknote Co. “Bit of Americana” choice vignette, featuring a man seated on a rock near a stream; Pair of American Bank Note Co. complimentary vignettes in red, both featuring allegorical women as Liberty; Final piece is a purple vignette of a city scene from a distance, with Bank Note Printers’ Designers’ Engravers’ Siderographers’ Guild of New York text underneath. All are in VF condition. Certificate of Merit for Texts Submitted for Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Black text with black border, Vignette at top center of George Washington. Red specimen overprints and POCs. VF-XF condition, ABNC. Original plans for the carving of Mount Rushmore included a large inscription called the Entablature. The sculptor of Mount Rushmore, Gutzon Borglum, intended to carve the Entablature in an area shaped like the territory of the Louisiana Purchase using large, three-foot tall letters. By 1934, Borglum took a different approach and worked with newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst to publish a contest to write the text. Thousands of essays were submitted and a grand prize was awarded for the best essay overall. The overall winner was John Edward Bradley. Light brown text and gold embossed border, U.S. Supreme Court Bicentennial Stamp at top right corner. Memphis Coin Club stamp in navy at top center, more text on back. Fine-VF condition with a fold down center; Lot also includes a Souvenir Card featuring an allegorical justice at center from the Bureau of Engraving & Printing Treasury Department, with Federal Managers Association Chapter 216 at center, states it is 546 out of 800, VF condition.
