Bullock. Georgia. October 17, 1870. $1000, 7% I/U Coupon Bond, Black on green border and underprint, State Arms in middle under title flanked by portraits of Liberty with Sailors sitting on cotton bales at a dock on the left and slaves lacing large cotton bale on cart on right, with allegorical women on bottom, the folds have been archivally reinforced to prevent splitting and to repair the bond otherwise the bond appears Fine to VF. Continental Bank Note Co. Signed by Rufus Brown Bullock (March 28, 1834 - April 27, 1907) who was a Republican Party politician and businessman in Georgia. During the Reconstruction Era he served as the state’s governor and called for equal economic opportunity and political rights for blacks and whites in Georgia. He also promoted public education for both, and encouraged railroads, banks, and industrial development. During his governorship he requested federal military help to ensure the rights of freedmen; this made him “the most hated man in the state”, and he had to flee the state without completing his term. Missouri, 1875. $1000 I/C 6% Coupon Bond #12, Black text with green border, Missouri State Seal at top center, Allegorical women at both top corners. POCs throughout, Coupons have been removed and adhered to a cardstock background. Fine condition with damage to bottom right corner. This bond was issued to pay damages to contractors for convict labor. Signed by Charles Henry Hardin as governor. He began public service in 1848 as an attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit, and then served in the Missouri House of Representatives. In 1860, he was elected to the Missouri Senate. As state senator, he attended Claiborne Fox Jackson’s secessionist meeting in Neosho, Missouri, and was the only senator present to vote against secession. In 1872, Hardin was again voted to the state senate. He served as 22nd Governor of Missouri between 1875 and 1877. During his term, Hardin reduced Missouri’s debt from the Civil War and state funding for railroad expansion by ending wasteful practices and refinancing bonds. ��������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $200-350 Montana 1030 1030Territory of Montana, 1868 I/C Bond Group of 8 Montana Territory, 1868, Lot of 8 pieces, all the same: $100 I/C 15% Bond, Black text with blue border and underprint, Man with cap in ornate frame at left, Sailor on dock depicted at right. James Tufts (September 19, 1829–August 18, 1884) was a United States politician and acting governor of Montana Territory in 1869.
