Hereditary payments are also discussed at length. Black text with dark brown writing, black seal at top center. Fine condition with damage to margins, but in incredible condition for its age. Rare and possibly unique piece of French financial history that pre-dates the French Revolution by over 20 years. The King of France at the time was Louis XV (15 February 1710 – 10 May 1774), known as Louis the Beloved, who was King of France from 1 September 1715 until his death in 1774. He succeeded his great-grandfather Louis XIV at the age of five. His reign of almost 59 years (from 1715 to 1774) was the second longest in the history of France, exceeded only by his predecessor, Louis XIV, who had ruled for 72 years (from 1643 to 1715). In 1748, Louis returned the Austrian Netherlands, won at the Battle of Fontenoy of 1745. He ceded New France in North America to Great Britain and Spain at the conclusion of the disastrous Seven Years’ War in 1763. He incorporated the territories of the Duchy of Lorraine and the Corsican Republic into the Kingdom of France. Historians generally criticize his reign, citing how reports of his corruption embarrassed the monarchy, while his wars drained the treasury while producing little gain. His grandson and successor Louis XVI would inherit a kingdom in need of financial and political reform, which ultimately would lead to the French Revolution of 1789. Est. $325-450 United Kingdom 641 641 Indented Final Agreement During the Reign of George III, 1769 United Kingdom, 1769. 17.5 x 9.5 inches Indented Final Agreement, dated Easter Day in the 9th year of the Reign of King George III. No tears, no holes, in tremendous condition and with ornate but legible handwriting. Indented left and top margins. VF condition and unique. George III (4 June 1738 - 29 January 1820) was King of Great Britain and Ireland from 25 October 1760 until the union of the two kingdoms on 1 January 1801, after which he was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death in 1820. George’s life and reign, which were longer than those of any of his predecessors, were marked by a series of military conflicts involving his kingdoms, much of the rest of Europe, and places farther afield in Africa, the Americas, and Asia. Early in his reign, Great Britain defeated France in the Seven Years’ War, becoming the dominant European power in North America and India. However, many of Britain’s American colonies were soon lost in the American War of Independence. Further wars against revolutionary and Napoleonic France from 1793 concluded in the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Est. $120-200 Ephemera - Historic Military Massachusetts 642 642 1802 Muster-Roll with Printed Instructions Massachusetts. 1802 Military document with very detailed Muster-Roll instructions on front, black text, with William Donnison, Adjutant-General at bottom.
