New York. 1896, Lot of 3 Progress proofs by Robert Ponickau. This trio of two progressive proofs and the final finished engraving first appeared on the announcement of President McKinley’s first Inaugural Ball, March 4, 1897 and was engraved by Robert Ponickau (1846-1920). Born in Germany he settled in Hudson County NJ and joined the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in 1893. He engraved stamps and bank notes and a number of eagle and ship vignettes that appeared on seals and certificates. BEP. Includes Broker coupons attached at top. Black text with black border, VF condition. Hornblower &Weeks was an investment banking and brokerage firm founded by Henry Hornblower and John W. Weeks in 1888. At its peak in the late 1970s, Hornblower ranked eighth among member firms of the New York Stock Exchange in number of retail offices, with 93 retail sales offices located in the United States and Europe. Hornblower was active in financing automobile companies in the first half of the 20th century, including Dodge Motors, General Motors, and Hudson Motor Car Company. ( John E. A. Menger listed as the Proprietress. The Menger Hotel is a historic hotel located in downtown San Antonio, Texas, USA. It is located where the Battle of the Alamo happened. William and Mary Menger opened the Menger hotel in 1859 in what is now San Antonio’s Alamo Plaza Historic District, which includes the Alamo Mission. The plans for the hotel arose through the popularity of William Menger’s brewery. The Mengers sold the property in 1881 to the Kampmann family. The Menger Hotel has been recognized by the state of Texas and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It is a member of Historic Hotels of America, an official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
