During the 1933 Great Depression, many cities in America prepared for “possible suspension of currency...by the Reserve Banks and commercial banks.” Clearing House Certificates were designed to serve as circulated currency during a possible reorganization period. The article states that less than $4,000,000 were printed, and none ever entered public circulation. “The unused engravings were stored in large wooden crates until 1941, when they were burned under supervision of the Newark Clearing House authorities.” Rare piece of a little-known element of Great Depression fiscal history with included provenance. Rare Depression Scrip Pair and related documents. (5) Est. $350-700
