Although unissued, still scarce.���������������������������������������������������� Est. $60-100 U.S. OBSOLETE BANKNOTES New York 480 480 Kathairon Bank, 1860-70’s Issued Advertising Note New York, ND (1860-70’s). Issued 25 cents on demand payment for “any Druggist in the United States or Canadas, One bottle of Lyon’s Celebrated Kathairon for preserving, restoring, and beautifying the hair.” Signed by Emmanuel Thomas Lyon and Demas Barnes. Emmanuel Thomas Lyon started working as a Chemist in New York City around 1849. His primary product over the years was his “Magnetic Powder” for pest control. In addition, he concocted his Kathairon hair product, as well as an Essence of Jamaica Ginger, sometime prior to 1852. He worked as a Chemist for Demas Barnes, and later for Heath, Wynkoop & Co., who sold these preparations. Demas Barnes was the Proprietor of Kathairon from around 1854 to 1856. Advertisements starting in 1857 indicated that Heath, Wyncoop & Co. were the sole Proprietors by that time. During the period they owned the product, they issued bank notes from “The Kathairon Bank” and claimed to have sold nearly a million bottles.����������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $80-160 481 481 Long Island Bank at Brooklyn, 1843 to 1845, DS&H Banknote Order Form & Correspondence. Lot of 2 stampless letters with attached correspondence, Includes: 1843 handwritten stampless letter from the long island Bank placing an order for banknotes and steel plates from Danforth, Spencer & Hufty, VF condition with an orange stamp at back; Also includes an 1845 duplicate order form #90, of banknotes and plates to be sent to the Long Island Bank, from the office of Danforth, Spencer & Hufty (Bald has been crossed out). Danforth, Bald, Spencer & Hufty was a predecessor to the American Bank Note Company, and was formed in 1843. In 1844, it became Danforth, Spencer & Hufty. The huge American Bank Note Company was formed from an association of seven competing companies in 1858. U/U Acceptance document from the Eastman National Business College located in Poughkeepsie, New York. Red text with red border, Allegorical woman at top left corner. This document is an acceptance to receive instruction at the college. Facsimile signature of Harvey G. Eastman at bottom as President. The college was founded in 1859 by Harvey G. Eastman, and was for a time one of the largest commercial schools in the United States. Eastman college was located in Poughkeepsie NY. Rather than merely being a theoretical school, students gained practical experience in the business arts by actually performing the tasks that would be expected of them in their working careers, a novel approach at the time. The school offered hands-on practice in a mock bank and a mock railway and express office, and also taught book-keeping; a School of Shorthand; which trained students in shorthand, typing, duplicating, and filing; a School of Penmanship, which prepared students to teach writing and pen art; and a School of Telegraphy, which trained students as telegraph operators.������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������ Est. $120-200
