Red specimen overprints, “0000” serial number, and POC’s, Fine-VF condition with signs of wear along horizontal margins and archivally reinforced splitting at folds, ABNC. Unlisted date and color in Cox. This is the only example found.����������������������������������������� Est. $300-450 1108 1108 Pennsylvania Canal Co., 1870 Issued Bond Trio Signed by Alfred Mordecai. Pennsylvania. $1000 Issued 6% Bond, Black print on black border and blue under tint on large sized certificate, Image of men walking beside canal at top, Revenue Stamp attached. Alfred Mordecai was from a prominent Jewish Philadelphia family, a West Point graduate and in 1836, appointed commander of the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia. He rose to the rank of major and, during the Mexican War, assumed command of the army’s most significant arsenal, in Washington, DC. Mordecai became an assistant to the Secretary of War and to the Chief of Ordnance, wrote an excellent Digest of Military Laws and served on the Board of Visitors to West Point. When the Civil War broke out Mordecai didn’t choose a side, he watched from the sidelines and taught mathematics at a private school. ���������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $130-260 1109 1109 Pennsylvania Company 1904 Specimen Bond Pair. Pennsylvania. Lot of 2 Pennsylvania Company Specimen Bonds: Includes a 1904, $1000 Series D 3 1/2% Guaranteed Gold Trust Certificate Coupon Bond with black text and brown-red border and underprint. The other is a 1912, $1000 Series E 4% Guaranteed Gold Trust Certificate Coupon Bond with black text and blue border and underprint. Both have the same illustration of men standing beside passing train on tracks, with red specimen overprints, “0000” serial numbers and POC’s, in VF condition and printed by ABNC.
