Listed railroad as a bond in Cox, but unlisted as a stock certificate. Found in an old estate. Locomotive left to right on top and harbor scene on left covered by U.S. Revenue stamp. Light “X” pen cancel on face of stock. VF to VF+ condition with small corner nick on lower right corner. William H.Vanderbilt autograph as president that is perfect and without any cancellation marks. The certificate was issued to Nathaniel Marsh, who was a native of Haverhill, Mass. He was educated at Dartmouth College and studied law in his native State. After his admission to the bar he removed to New-York. He was First Assistant Postmaster of this City under JOHN L. GRAHAM, and was afterward made Secretary of the New-York and Erie Railroad, of which he was subsequently elected President. Rare and desirable stock certificate with important Vanderbilt signature.
