Rare with TDLR oval overprints. �������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $1500-2200 Kingdom of Hawaii The “Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions” in 1835 passed a resolution to promote boarding schools for Hawaiians including several male boarding schools and two female boarding schools including the Wailuku Female Seminary on the island of Maui. This rare and lovely note was issued by the Seminary which is located in what is now the County Seat of Maui County. The Wailuku Female Seminary was in the charge of Edward J. Baily who was principal of the Seminary from 1840 until 1849. It was issued as a temporary reimbursement for work provided until accumulated and later redeemed for “silver or goods,” according to an 1897 letter written by Edward Bailey. A rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding numismatic rarity. 551 551 Wailuku Female Seminary, (ND (1844) Hapaumi (1/10) Issued Scrip-Banknote. Kingdom of Hawaii. Hapaumi (1/10), P-Unlisted, 2PE-5, issued scrip note-banknote. 1.75 c 2.5 inches, This piece of scrip is printed in vermilion ink on thin cardboard. PMG graded Choice About Uncirculated 58. Only seven of these were reportedly given to the Hawaii State Archives. An extremely rare and desirable piece of Hawaiian numismatic history.
