Connecticut. 100 Preferred Shares Specimen, Blue, monogram flanked by allegorical men, Pope Manufacturing Company was founded by Albert Augustus Pope in 1877 in Boston, Massachusetts. Manufacturing began in 1887 in Hartford, Connecticut, at the Weed Sewing Machine Company factory. Pope manufactured bicycles, under the Columbia brand, motorcycles, and automobiles. It ceased automobile production in 1915, and ceased motorcycle production in 1918, but bicycles are still available under the Columbia brand. XF, ABNC. In 1925 the company was sold to Dillon, Read & Company for $148 million, said to be the largest financial transaction to take place up till that time. In 1928 Dodge Brothers merged with Chrysler.
