Lot includes 22 issued checks, by the Treasurer of the State of Pennsylvania, School Department, dated 1838-1866, all endorsed and cut-cancelled, featuring allegorical woman with US flag-shield at bottom left, man teaching geometry to student at top left, and view featuring 7 peoples studying and teaching at top right. Lawsuit with attached note from Memphis Tennes- see for $4500. Dated during the period 2 weeks after the Civil war began and right before Union occupation and capture. Note is attached with green seal and was payable at their “Counting Room”. VF. Scarce document from historic time period for New Orleans. Union Army general in the American Civil War, he conducted successful campaigns in North Carolina and East Tennessee but was defeated in the disastrous Battle of Fredericksburg and Battle of the Crater. A 2-page printed open letter by construction engineer Francis Fortune to the directors of the London and Birmingham Railroad, 1832, containing Francis Fortune proposal for linking parts of England by rail, stating that he can build a railroad communicating with the three seaports in the West, North Seas and British Channel. Letters and poetry written by C. A. Van Tassell, one of Thomas Edison’s assistants, all written on Thomas Edison’s letter head. In one of his letters, Van Tassell wrote to his fianc_ and spoke to her about requesting patents and possibly selling one patent he developed to Edison. All letters are Fine-XF condition.
