Introduction to the Sale Foreword On behalf of the entire Archives International Auctions team, I would like to personally welcome you to our 50th Milestone auction. We are excited to offer over 1150 lots of rare and desirable U.S., Chinese & Worldwide Banknotes, Scripophily, Autographs, Security Printing Ephemera and Historic Ephemera over our 2-day auction. The first day will be held at the Collectors Club in New York City with the second day held at our offices in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Included in the auction are many wonderful items consigned from numerous estates and longtime collections, most having never been offered previously at auction. The first day begins with U.S. & Worldwide Scripophily with many highlights from the John E. Herzog Collection including major rarities such as the impressive Spanish, Real Compania de San Fernando de Seville, 1740’s Share Certificate; and 2 different 1917, Dominion of Canada War Loan Specimen bond rarities. Modern Scripophily is represented by numerous stocks such as Apple Computer, Amazon.com, NYSE Group, Inc. and Berkshire Hathaway Specimens. Additional Highlights include a 1778 Danish West Indies Bond; 2 different Nathan Rothschild Russian Bonds; an 1845 Michigan, Mackinac and Lake Superior Copper Co. Stock Certificate and hundreds of additional selected bonds and shares offered over the 2 days. Security Printing Ephemera is highlighted by a spectacular 1866 British American Bank Note Company, Engravers & Printers, ca.1866 Proof Advertising Sheet Rarity and numerous other desirable items. We are privileged to offer a historic group of Presidential signed documents including Abraham Lincoln, 2 different James Madison and numerous other Presidential signed documents from an old estate collection that has been off the market for over 30 years. U.S. banknote highlights include an extremely rare Uncut Pair of 1875, $10-$20, Charter #2382, The Central National Bank of Washington City Nationals; an Alaska, First National Bank of Fairbanks, 1902, $5, Plain Back; a Nevada, 1929, First National Bank of Lovelock, Nevada, $10, T1, Ch#7654 and dozens of other outstanding U.S. Obsolete and Type and National notes from various collections and estates. We are concluding the first day with a significant offering 128 lots of rare China and Hong Kong Banknotes and Scripophily featuring a Hong Kong, Mercantile Bank of India, 1941, $5, Issue Banknote Rarity; a Sin Chun Bank of China, 1908, $10 high grade Private Banknote; a 1920, 10 Tael Specimen Commercial Bank of China Rarity and a multitude of other impressive notes. The second day features hundreds of U.S. and World Bonds and Shares, a large collection of nearly 50 Mexico Bonds and Shares; and over 30 Chinese Scripophily lots will be offered as well as banknotes, security printing ephemera and historic ephemera.
