First time offered from us. 35 35 Extraordinary, Puerto Rico 1876 Treasury Bond for the Indemnification of Slave Owners. San Juan, Puerto Rico. April 6, 1876, 100 Pesos, 6% interest, issued, cancelled and partially redeemed, Indemnizacion a Poseedores de Esclavos, An allegorical female shows an emancipation proclamation to slaves. Puerto Rico passed a law to free the slaves in 1873 and the owners were compensated by the government. Coupons on both sides of bond, S/N 45028, Edge splits, stains, and a small piece out of the bottom border, but this piece is so scarce that none of this matters. First time offered by us.
