Archives International Auctions - Sale 50 23 December 3-4,2018 Archives International Auctions www.archivesinternational.com New York 116 116 Little Miami Rail Road Co., 1854 Share Certificate Signed by Daniel Drew. Cincinnati, OH. 1854. 210 Shares. Issued to Daniel Drew and signed by him on the on the transfer below. Daniel Drew was Commodore Vanderbilt’s nemesis. He fought the Commodore for control of steamship lines and railroads using every trick in the book. In 1844 he opened the Wall Street brokerage firm of Drew, Robinson, and Company, which became one of the principal traders in railroad stocks in the United States. Drew’s association with Jay Gould, Jim Fisk, and the Erie Railroad began in 1853, just one year before he acquired these shares. The Little Miami Rail Road merged with the Columbus and Xenia Railroad to create the first through rail route from the important manufacturing city of Cincinnati to the state capital, Columbus, and Drew almost certainly would have anticipated the merger. This example is not cancelled, and the signature is exceptional nice. Also included is an excellent cabinet photograph of Daniel Drew. VF-EF. (John E.
