It abounds in clever little catch phrases like “ILL BLOWS THE WIND THAT PROFITS NOBODY,” “TOLL YOUR OWN GRIST.” Only the second one seen by this cataloger. Pennsylvania, Lot of 9 bonds, all are 1870,$1000. General mortgage, I/U bonds, canal boat, blue underprint. All signed by Alfred Mordecai, Jr. as Secretary. Mordecai was a Jewish graduate of West Point. He served as Adjutant General during the defense of Washington in August of 1861, and participated in the Manassas Campaign and the a of Bull Run. Signed by General Isaac Jones Wistar as president. Wistar was vice president of the Pennsylvania Railroad and founded the Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology at the University of Pennsylvania. Most of the bonds are very nice. A few have edge splits or small pieces out. Should be seen.
