Archives International Auctions - Auction 118 November 17 & 18 2026

Introduction to the Sale Foreword On behalf of the entire Archives International Auctions team, welcome to our 118th auction, held November 17th and 18th. Day 1 is a live auction of 447 lots of U.S. and worldwide banknotes, world coins and medals, ephemera, and checks, drafts and exchanges. Day 2 is a timed online sale of 291 lots of U.S. and world scripophily. As always, many lots appear at public auction for the first time. The 230-lot foreign banknote section is led by a Croatia 2002 50, 100 and 200 Kuna specimen trio, each at or near the top of the PMG census, including the only graded 100 Kuna, in Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ. An Anglo-Iranian Oil Co. 25 Dinars scrip note, from the company that became British Petroleum, grades PMG Choice About Unc 58. Also offered are a 1898 Russia 500 Rubles with Peter the Great and 1882 Hawaiian Government specimen bond coupons. The 101 lots of world coins and medals include an 1894 Canada Large Cent, Thick 4 variety, PCGS MS 63 BN, and a Graf Zeppelin pair: the 1929 Zeppelin and Eckener silver medal, PCGS SP 63, and the 1930 F 5 Reichsmark for the airship’s world flight, PCGS AU 58. U.S. banknotes are led by three Chicago $500 Federal Reserve Notes with William McKinley: two Series 1934 notes in PMG Very Fine 30 and a Series 1934A mule in PCGS Very Fine 25. An 1859 $20,000 Treasury Second of Transfer is signed by Treasury Secretary Howell Cobb, later a founder of the Confederacy. The ephemera section offers three Poyaisian Land Grants signed by the notorious Sir Gregor MacGregor, and engraved plate printers’ union convention albums, one with a G.F.C. Smillie portrait of Woodrow Wilson. Day 2’s scripophily is especially deep in mining and railroads. Highlights include an 1863 Nevada Territory Illinois Gold and Silver Mining Co. certificate and an 1889 Denver, Texas and Fort Worth Railroad certificate signed by Grenville M. Dodge over Sidney Dillon’s crossed-out signature. A Grafton and Upton Railroad 1888 specimen bond is one of two found in the ABN Archives, and more than 95 American Caramel Co. certificates, from the maker of early baseball cards, are offered as one lot. Our next auction is in planning, and we are actively accepting consignments. Thank you for your continued interest and support. We hope this sale brings enjoyment and meaningful additions to your collection. Best of luck, Bob Schwartz
