Lincoln Farm Association, 1908, Issued Membership Certificate Kentucky, 1908. Issued Honorary Member Certificate for the Lincoln Form Association, Black print with portrait of Lincoln at top with log cabin to left and White House at right, Red embossed seal at bottom center. VF to VF+ condition with toning, stains, and small tears around margin. Issued during the early 20th-century historic preservation movement, this certificate relates to the Lincoln Farm Association, organized in 1906 to acquire and preserve Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace in Hodgenville, Kentucky. The Association’s efforts directly led to the creation of what is now Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park, making these honorary membership certificates tangible artifacts from one of the earliest nationally coordinated preservation campaigns dedicated to an American president. Est. $50-100 Ephemera - Southern & Civil War Related Louisiana 394 394 LA. Group Lot of New Orleans Bank Checks, 1861 Business Correspondence, andManuscript ExpositionSongLyrics Louisiana...., Lot of 2 items. Includes a partially-used checkbook leaf from the Bank of America, New Orleans (printed by Paulin Durel, 37 Chartres St.), comprising three check forms; one is completed and dated July 27, 1868, with payee and amount partly obscured by a period ink stain and signed, apparently, “M. Gonzalez,” the remaining two checks unused. The verso bears manuscript pencil lyrics titled “Louisiana Day,” describing a visitor’s tour of a New Orleans exposition — cotton-spinning machinery, a military band, and a whirlwind “visit” to Texas, California, and Kentucky before returning to Louisiana to “celebrate her day”; the exposition imagery is consistent with New Orleans’s 1884–85 World’s Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition, suggesting the lyrics may be a later pencil addition to the blank check leaf rather than contemporary with it. Also included is an autograph letter signed by S. Murdoch, dated October 2, 1861, to a Mr. Shriver, returning $10.00 of an advance and discussing due-bills owed to seamstresses for piecework, noting illness in their families had slowed the work, with the balance not to exceed $44.87½; a period tally of accounts appears on its reverse.
