Signed by H. Wells as president, and William Fargo as Secretary with Alex Holland as treasurer. Henry Wells, William G. Fargo, and John Butterfield were key founders, with Wells and Fargo being particularly notable for their later involvement in founding Wells Fargo & Co. in 1852. Both companies initially focused on transportation and financial services, such as secure shipping of goods, currency, and valuables during a time when banking and logistical services were fragmented in the United States.
