Issued municipal fractional currency note payable to bearer, denominated Twenty-Five Cents, printed in black and green ink on thin paper with ornate borders, multiple “25” denomination counters, and classical allegorical vignettes at top with additional animal vignette at lower right; red serial numbers “34883” appear at left and right with manuscript signatures at the lower margin for city officials. The reverse is blank, as issued. The condition ranges from Fine to Choice Fine condition, with folds, wear, and age toning consistent with circulation. Issued railroad company scrip note payable to bearer, denominated Two Dollars, printed in black ink on thin paper with ornate borders and a central vignette depicting a steam locomotive pulling passenger cars, with additional decorative side panels and obligation text stating the note is receivable in payment of dues to the company. The note bears manuscript signatures of company officers and red serial number “747”; the reverse is blank, as issued. Produced during the Civil War period to facilitate transactions amid shortages of circulating currency.
