Notes feature multiple design types including Imperial eagle motifs and cityscape views of Nördlingen, with serial numbers, decorative borders, and municipal authorization by the city magistrate. Printed in a variety of color combinations including black, red, green, and orange. These emergency notes were issued by the city during World War I to address shortages of small denomination coinage. Uncirculated to Gem Uncirculated or better condition. (12). The series promotes remembrance of Germany’s former overseas colonies and features portraits of O. v. Bismarck, Dr. Carl Peters, H. von Wissmann, A. Lüderitz, and Carl Woermann, with the inscription “Remember our Colonies.” The colorful reverses display a map of Africa highlighting former German colonial territories including Togo, Cameroon, German East Africa, and German South West Africa. Printed in multicolor with tropical and botanical design elements. Includes 4 examples of each of the 5 notes in the series. Conditions range from VF to XF condition with stains. (20).
