Lot of 4 Specimen bonds, includes: First Mortgage 11½% bonds dated 1974 in $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 denominations, and a First Mortgage 15½% bond dated 1984. All are specimen examples with overprints and punch cancellations, printed in distinct color schemes (blue, brown, green, and orange) with a central allegorical vignette of a seated figure overlooking an industrial/rail scene. Printed by a major security printer with engraved borders and corporate seals. Uncirculated to CU condition. (4). The back is endorsed but signed by Stanly Field “for the estate of Joseph N. Field.” Joseph N. Field was an American businessman and corporate officer active in the late 19th century. He served as a trustee, director, or executive in a number of railroad, insurance, and financial companies during the post–Civil War industrial boom. By the 1890s he was well established in corporate circles, appearing on stock and bond issues as an officer or signatory. Field’s career reflects the generation of financiers who helped manage the rapid expansion of transportation and utilities in the United States at the turn of the century.
