Bob Kluge has been a passionate collector of stock and bond certificates since the mid-1960s. By 1979, while employed at East River Savings Bank in New York City, he was already displaying portions of his growing collection in prominent venues — including the World Trade Center and Rockefeller Center — generating widespread public attention and a feature interview in the Wall Street Journal. That same year, Bob joined the International Bond and Share Society (founded in London in 1978), later serving two terms as President of its American Branch. In 1980, he launched his business under the name “American Vignettes,” going on to exhibit at up to ten collectible shows annually across nearly as many states, build a substantial mail-order following, and open antique mall locations including “Historical Connections” in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. A Bucknell University alumnus, he also mounted a noted exhibit at his alma mater’s library. In 2011, Bob appeared on the PBS series History Detectives, bringing scripophily to a nationwide audience. His decades of collecting, exhibiting, and dealing make him one of the hobby’s most knowledgeable and dedicated practitioners.
