Archives International Auctions - Auction 113 May 27, 2026

Introduction to the Sale Foreword On behalf of the entire Archives International Auctions team, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our 113th auction. This one-day sale presents 747 carefully curated lots across two sessions, spanning world and U.S. banknotes; scripophily; U.S. colonial and fiscal documents; historic ephemera; security printing material; stamps and postal history; and ABNC & BEP souvenir cards, together with additional outstanding selections from the Silverton Collection of Colorado and Western Stocks and Bonds. Many of the items featured originate from long-held private collections, with a significant number making their first appearance at public auction. The auction offers a broad and well-balanced selection across multiple collecting categories. Session One includes over 160 lots of world banknotes ranging from Africa to Zaire, with particular depth in China, Russia, and Eastern Europe; nearly 80 lots of U.S. colonial, obsolete, small-size, and type currency; U.S. federal bonds and fiscal documents; historic and security-printing ephemera, covering traveler’s checks, checks and drafts, stamps and postal history, concluding with ABNC and BEP souvenir cards. Session Two presents an extensive offering of over 460 lots of U.S. and world scripophily, led by world scripophily and followed by automobiles, banking, breweries, mining, navigation, railroads, and utilities, including further selections from the Silverton Collection. Among the featured highlights is exceptional China, Pick Unlisted 1949, Central Bank of China Front Printer’s Essay Design 50,000 Gold Yuan, graded PMG 66 EPQ, carrying serial number 1A 000000 — a unique production artifact from the final months of the Republic. Additional highlights include a striking Austro-Hungarian 10,000 Kronen note of 1918 with rare red “Deutschösterreich” overprint, graded PMG 65 EPQ; a World War One era $10 United States Government Liberty Loan Bond Participation Certificate specimen issued through the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, printed by the American Bank Note Company and graded PMG 55; and an extraordinary uncut sheet of eight U.S. Department of Energy Gas Coupon specimens, signed by Secretary James Schlesinger — among the finest and most intact examples of this rarely preserved emergency rationing production material known. Scripophily collectors will find an exceptional array of signed and historically significant material. The railroads section alone exceeds 175 lots, including strong representation in Western, Transcontinental, and regional lines. Complementing the railroad holdings are selections in banking and finance, with a Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. Common Stock certificate among the modern highlights — featuring engraved portraits of founders Marcus Goldman and Samuel Sachs by the American Bank Note Company. A signed stock certificate for The World’s Columbian Exposition, dated March 1892 and printed by Western Bank Note of Chicago, brings together numismatic history and Americana in a single extraordinary piece. Our 114th auction is planned for late June to early July 2026, and will feature additional selections of banknotes, scripophily, ephemera, and historic bonds and shares from major estates, many unseen for decades. We are actively accepting consignments for our upcoming sales. We sincerely thank you for your continued interest and support. We hope this auction brings you both enjoyment and meaningful additions to your collection. Best of luck, Bob Schwartz
