The Mercantile Library Company of Philadelphia was established in 1821. Signed by Morris Perot as president. Perot was active in founding The Woman’s Medical College of Philadelphia, the first medical college in the world for women. He was also the President of the Mercantile Library Company. Staff included John Edmands (1820-1915), was an American librarian who was responsible for innovations in filing methodologies. He inspired Poole’s guide to periodical literature.
