There are two different colors for each denomination, two for $1 in green and purple and two for $5 in yellow and orange. All are either unissued remainders or unmarked specimens without serial numbers or signatures, All are in Uncirculated to CU condition. The federal government frowned upon using clearing house associations for the 1933 Depression scrip issues. Though there is no date, we are confident this fits the earlier 1907 style and format and not the later 1933 Depression Scrip designs. Altoona Clearing House Association notes in $5, $10, and $20 denominations dated 1907; two Erie Clearing House $1 notes issued March 10, 1933; and, a 1932 Stork System of Savings 1 cent, percentage scrip issued for Bank of America of California. Notes feature ornate security borders, clearing house typography, and typical early 20th century emergency currency designs. Several display serial numbers, signatures of issuing officials, and printed redemption instructions. Notes range from Fine to CU condition overall. (6). Lot of 8 Depression Era emergency scrip, tax tokens, and commemorative exchange certificates issued by municipalities and local organizations during the economic crisis of the 1930s, Includes: 1932, Chamber of Commerce, Tenino, Wash., 25 Cent Wooden Scrip Certificate; 1933, Heppner Sheepskin Scrip, Heppner, Oregon, $5, Cancelled Overprint; 1930s, Pilot Rock Commercial Association, Oregon, $1 I/C Wheat Scrip; 1936, Whitman Centennial Celebration, Wash., Exchange Certificate; 1930s to 1940s, State of Washington Tax Tokens, 5 Mills (2 different); and 1930s to 1940s, Emergency Sales Tax Tokens, Spokane, Wash., 1 and 3 Mills. These pieces represent various forms of substitute currency and tax payment tokens used when coinage shortages and economic hardship required local solutions. Items show typical handling and age.
