Dock Bond of the City of New York, 1870, I/C and Framed Bond New York City, 1870. $1000 I/C 7% Bond, Black print with red border and underprint, Allegorical women flank view of Brooklyn Bridge over Hudson River at center, Bond is made out to George K. Sistare (who was a banker that killed himself after the crash of 1890) and signed by Mayor A. Oakey Hall. Bond is in Fine to VF condition and is mounted in a glass frame that shows off the front and back of the bond. Issued during a pivotal period of post-Civil War expansion, Dock Bonds such as this financed major improvements to New York’s waterfront, supporting the construction and modernization of piers and harbor facilities that helped establish New York Harbor as the nation’s dominant commercial port.
