Delaware, 1921. 4 Shares, I/U Capital Stock Certificate, Black with green border and underprint, Vignette above title shows man on the left pointing to a globe with the continent of Africa prominent with text reading ‘Africa the Land of Opportunity’ and an ocean liner with two smoke stacks to right, Signed by George Tobias as Secretary and Orland M. Thompson as President. Certificate is in Fine to VF+ condition with staple holes and splits at fold lines. The Black Star Line, Inc. was founded in 1919 by Marcus Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association as a bold effort to establish Black-owned shipping and trade.
