A varied group of German banknotes issued between 1910 and 1923, spanning the late Imperial era through the Weimar hyperinflation period. Included are numerous denominations from early 1–1000 Mark issues to the rapidly escalating 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, 100,000, and Million-Mark notes of 1922–23. Designs feature classic Reichsbank portraits, ornate borders, and the distinctive typography of the inflation years. This grouping provides an excellent overview of Germany’s monetary collapse and note-printing evolution during the period. Group of four early First World War municipal Notgeld issues, all shown here by their original fronts and backs as photographed; Friedrichsthal-Saar (Saar district), Gutschein über Fünf Mark, valid until 1 December 1914, printed on distinctive red paper and bearing the municipal seal of Friedrichsthal-Saar, representing a higher-denomination emergency issue intended to offset severe coin shortages at the outbreak of war; Deutsch Piekar (Upper Silesia), Gutschein über 1 Mark, serial number 2726, dated 6 August 1914 and valid until 30 September 1914, issued and signed by the Gemeindevorsteher, with plain typography typical of the earliest emergency paper money; Deutsch Eylau (East Prussia; present-day Iława, Poland), Gutschein über 1 Mark, dated 1914, issued by the Magistrat der Stadt Dt. Eylau, featuring the patriotic inscription “Gott mit uns!” and hand-applied signatures; Dessau (Duchy of Anhalt), Gutschein über Eine Mark, serial number 3910, dated August 1914, issued by the municipal Magistrat with official stamps and signatures. Group of 10 municipal Notgeld notes, issued during the later First World War and immediate postwar period to alleviate persistent shortages of official coinage; Weiden (Bavaria), three Gutscheine, Fünfzig Pfennig, dated 1916, 1917 and 1918, issued by the Stadtgemeinde Weiden, featuring ornate engraved designs, 2 with town views and matching reverses; Witten (Westphalia), two small-format Gutscheine, 1 Pfennig and 2 Pfennig, dated November 1919, plainly printed emergency issues authorized by the municipal Magistrat; Wiesbaden (Hesse), Gutschein über Fünfundzwanzig Pfennig, dated September 1919, with decorative civic motif and official stamping; Zweibrücken (Palatinate), Gutschein über Fünfzig Pfennig, dated 20 February 1917, issued by the city administration with redemption text on reverse; Cottbus (Brandenburg), four higher-denomination Gutscheine, 5, 10, 20, and 50 Mark, dated 1918–1919, bold multi-color designs reflecting inflationary pressures at the close of the war.
