Introduction to the Sale Foreword On behalf of the Archives International Auctions team, I am pleased to welcome you to our 109th auction and our eleventh and final event of 2025. This sale features 684 lots of notable U.S., Chinese, and worldwide banknotes; scripophily; coins; U.S. colonial and fiscal documents; historic ephemera; and security printing material. Many items originate from long- standing collections and estates, with numerous pieces appearing at auction for the first time. This one-day auction offers a broad and diverse selection: 341 lots of world banknotes; 16 lots of U.S. and world coins; 38 lots of U.S. colonial, obsolete, and Confederate notes; more than 50 lots of U.S. large and small type notes, including national banknotes, Federal Reserve notes, legal tenders, and silver certificates; over 78 lots of historic and security printing ephemera, traveler’s checks, stamps, and postal history; and concluding with 157 lots of U.S. and world scripophily, highlighted by railroads, mining, banking and finance, and a significant offering of Colorado and Western mining certificates. Featured highlights include a superb Mexico, Estado de Chihuahua, Tesoria General 1890 Specimen “Circulating Baby Bond”; a rare 1873 California Amador Canal & Mining Company $5 issued obsolete scrip; and an impressive selection of U.S. Large and Small Type notes and National Banknotes led by a Series 1934A $1000 bill. Additional notable items include two different Reno, Nevada Series 1929 $5 Type 2 nationals, a 1902 Plain Back $10 from the National Bank of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and a wide range of small and large type nationals from Maryland and New York. The scripophily section includes 16 Colorado Territory certificates, more than 60 mining certificates from two major collections, over 40 railroad pieces, and dozens of other scarce and desirable offerings. Historic and security printing ephemera includes everything from railroad and advertising ephemera to postcards, proof and specimen documents, vignettes, and numerous other interesting items. Our 110th auction is scheduled for mid to late January and will feature additional selections of banknotes, scripophily, coins, ephemera, and other desirable items from major estates, including many historic bonds and shares not seen in decades.
