U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, 1994 Hand-Pulled Intaglio Print – “Allegorical Group of Industry, Prosperity, and Commerce,” ANA Detroit Show Souvenir Card. A finely engraved intaglio vignette depicting three classical female figures symbolizing Liberty, Industry, and Agriculture, surrounded by palm fronds and emblems of production and trade. This hand-pulled proof was printed directly from a steel plate on the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s Spider Press during the 1994 American Numismatic Association Convention in Detroit, Michigan, as part of a live demonstration of traditional currency printing techniques. Personally signed in ink by Tom Spiewak, Plate Printer, B.E.P., and hand-numbered No. 47, from an estimated edition of 50 to 100 impressions, each individually inked and wiped by the printer. The Bureau’s Spider Press demonstrations have long been a highlight of ANA conventions, offering collectors a firsthand view of the meticulous artistry behind U.S. currency and security engraving. This example remains in excellent condition with full margins, deep impression, and sharp detail; a desirable signed and numbered proof for advanced BEP and souvenir card collectors.
