The Maryland State Colonization Society (MSCS) was a state-funded organization (1831–1902) that forcibly “re-settled” free and manumitted Black Marylanders in a colony called Maryland in Liberia, established in Africa. This effort, part of the larger American Colonization Society movement, aimed to remove Black people from the state and was supported by state appropriations and voluntary emigration, though many emigrants faced difficult conditions. The society dissolved in 1902, and Maryland in Liberia eventually joined the Republic of Liberia in 1857. Est. $150-250 U.S. Obsolete Banknotes New Hampshire 371 371 NH.NashuaBank, (ND1860s -1990Reprints),ReprintAssortment.
