Lot of 13 Issued Checks, Political, and Satirical Notes, Includes: Maritime Bank of the Dominion of Canada, 1885, I/C check; a group of 1917-1919 checks with 2 Cent Admiral postage stamp issues used as revenue, Merchants Bank of Canada, 1917, I/C check with adhesive revenue; Imperial Bank of Canada, 1918, 7 I/C Checks with adhesive revenues and various Montreal, Windsor, and other branch handstamps on reverse; Lot includes Canadian political parody notes ca. 1960s to 1970s (“Diefendollar” and “Tru Dough Dollar”) referencing national economic policies and devaluation themes. Conditions range from Good to VF among the checks with typical folds, ink, toning, and punch cancels; parody notes show light handling overall. (13). Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited is a Canadian retail company which operates in the automotive, hardware, sports, leisure and housewares sectors. Canadian Tire money, officially Canadian Tire ‘money’ or CTM, is a loyalty program operated by the Canadian retail chain Canadian Tire. It consists of coupons, issued by the company, which resemble real banknotes. It can be used as scrip in Canadian Tire stores, but is not considered a private currency. The notes are printed on paper similar to what Canadian currency was printed on when they were still paper, and were jointly produced by two of the country’s long-established security printers, British American Banknote Company (BABN) and Canadian Bank Note Company (CBN). Some privately owned businesses in Canada accept CTM as payment, since the owners of many such businesses shop at Canadian Tire.
