Included are certificates from George M. Forman & Co.; Georgia Power Co.; Geotechnics and Resources, Inc.; Hydraulic Press Brick Co.; Gary and Loveless Co.; Gary Home Builders Co.; Gas-O-Gen Corp.; Galesburg District Fair Association; Hygienic Liquid Package Co.; R. H. Hyland Co.; and Gediminas Building and Loan Association, among others. Several pieces feature detailed allegorical vignettes, industrial motifs, or regional company seals, with engraved borders in colors such as orange, green, purple, and brown. Printed in black with a bold border and striking vignettes: at left an allegorical female figure beside a shield marked “$1,100,000,” at center a detailed steamship at sea, and the title in large gothic script across the top; red 25¢ U.S. Internal Revenue stamp at upper right; incorporated in February 1863 to acquire, manage, and develop real estate during San Francisco’s rapid post–Gold Rush expansion, with many such firms organized to ride the speculative urban growth of California’s port cities; issued to W. Harwood and hand-signed by company officers, dated May 17, 1863, with embossed seal; the condition ranges from Choice Fine to VF condition or better. Printed by H. P.
