Printed in black and red with an ornate border and a left-side vignette of cattle grazing on the open range, symbolizing the livestock industry of the American West; incorporated under the laws of Wyoming Territory in 1884 with capital of $600,000 to manage large-scale cattle ranching during the peak cattle boom, when Eastern investors financed ranches across the Plains; certificates were made Unassessable, protecting investors from future company debts; issued to Granville Whitney and hand-signed by the president and treasurer, dated December 16, 1884, with embossed corporate seal; the condition ranges from Choice Fine to VF condition or better. Printed by T. Groom & Co., Boston. Granville Whitney was a prominent cattleman in the American West during the 1880s. Burdened by heavy debt and construction problems, the company soon struggled against the rival New Orleans & Ohio Telegraph Co.
