A diverse and wide-ranging lot of 19th and early 20th century ephemera, including early U.S. and Western checks, advertising trade cards, tickets, and miscellaneous paper items reflecting American commerce and daily life. Highlights include 1870s–1890s checks and drafts from banks such as First National Bank of Portland, OR; Reading Savings Bank, PA; Bank of Mobile, AL; Utah National Bank, Salt Lake City; and London & San Francisco Bank, CA; ornate billheads and receipts with engraved vignettes; colorful advertising and trade cards for clothing houses, tobacco, and confectionery; railroad-related timetables, tickets, and broadside cards; as well as ration books, insurance documents, and social invitations spanning into the 1930s–40s. This collection offers a fascinating cross-section of American business, finance, and advertising, ranging from frontier-era financial instruments to early modern commercial printing. Condition varies, but most examples are well-preserved and displayable, with attractive graphics and historic content throughout. Lot of 2 Civil War era documents, Includes: Essex County, New York, Volunteer War Bond, August 29, 1864, $1000, 7% Coupon Bond, issued to raise funds for Civil War volunteers. Printed with eagle and shield vignette, embossed green seal, and 10¢ revenue stamp affixed. Signed by county officials, with cancellation noted on reverse dated 1869. Also included is a Miami County, Ohio, Bounty to Volunteers Certificate, January 24, 1865, $100, with ornate border, 5¢ revenue stamp affixed, and extensive endorsement notations across face. Both pieces with period cancellations, issued during the Union’s efforts to meet recruitment quotas by offering financial bounties. Documents show circulation folds and handling, ranging Fine to VF.
